Are you working during your studies? Different types of employment affect your health insurance in various ways. Here’s what you need to know:

1. Mini-job or part-time job

  • Definition: A mini-job is when you earn less than €556 per month (€6,672 per year).
  • Health insurance: Income from a mini-job is not taxed and does not affect your health insurance. This includes volunteer work as well.

2. Social security contributions

  • Definition: If you earn more than €556 per month, your job is classified as subject to social security contributions.
  • Health insurance: You will be registered with a statutory health insurance provider. If you were previously privately insured, you must switch.
  • Contribution: Your monthly contribution is automatically deducted from your salary.

3. Working student status

  • Definition: As a working student, you work part-time while studying, often for a company.
  • Health insurance: You can remain in your private health insurance as long as you meet the working student criteria.
